We spent today exploring Vancouver. We checked out the art gallery, an interesting mixture of Japanese and one of Canada’s own: Emily Carr.

I am no art expert but her work made me feel how the characters in Harry Potter felt when the dementors had been around. It was like all the happiness had been sucked out of them. Dark dreary ugghhh.
After the gallery I made an attempt at ice skating. I am no Jane Torville or Christopher Dean.
After a pit stop at an Irish pub for a Guinness and catching the last minutes of Wigan knocking Man City out of the F.A cup we headed back to the hotel.

After a bit of online research we walked down to the ferry to Granville Island. Wow what a great place, markets selling all types of fruit, veg, delis, bakeries, and wine shops. We meandered to our hearts content.
We noticed a brewery, and before we knew it, we were in! A beer paddle of samples, and our first Poutine. Chips, gravy and cheese curds, to soak up the beer. Next stop a distillery… happy hour. A 4 sample tray of whisky, and finally Espresso Martinis (the first place we have seen them since we left Australia) apart from when we asked a bar tender in Toronto to try and make one.

Wine bought, pies for dinner later, chicken pot pie and salmon pot pie looked delicious.
We headed back to the ferry and walked back up the hill towards our hotel. Movie and wine, the pies were divine, good night Vancouver, this place is great.
