After a 07.00 alarm, we chowed down on brekkie, and hit the road by 08.00. This was going to be a long journey day.
Bendigo to Ballarat (another gold town), then Apollo Bay (small coastal town on the Great Ocean Road).
In a nutshell, the Great Ocean Road is a 500km ish very scenic coastal route that starts to the left of Melbourne, and weaves it way from Warrnambool in the west to Torquay in the east next door to Melbourne. We drove from inland and landed roughly in the middle of the coastal drive (Apollo Bay).
We then headed back west towards The Twelve Apostles (The Twelve Apostles is a collection of limestone stacks off the shore of the Port Campbell National Park, by the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. Their proximity to one another has made the site a popular tourist attraction. There are eight Apostles left, the ninth having collapsed dramatically in July 2005.
The name remains significant and spectacular, especially in the Australian tourism industry) (click for external link).
A fantastic picture postcard location, only ruined by busloads of selfie-sticked tourists elbowing their way through the language barrier, and helicopter charters buzzing the stacks (Apostles). Despite this, we managed to take some snaps.
Arrived in Melbourne around 18.30, dumped the gear and hit the shops. As we have an apartment with all mod-cons, and tomorrow is Good Friday, nearly all food and grog shops will be closed.
Settled in at a Korean restaurant for great tucker. Wine and footy awaits.
